Crystal Ball

by Séro-Zéro

Crystal meth (Tina, crank, tweak, meth, ice, glass)… A very different drug.

Crystal meth (methamphetamine in crystal form) is sold in the shape of a white or yellowish translucent or opaque crystal powder.

It is a synthetic drug made from, among other things, ephedrine, drain opener (e.g.: Drano), the liquid found in lithium batteries, paint solvent and ammonia.

Crystal can create a strong addiction even after only one dose. - After a dose, users may experience a major energy loss, strong depression and an obsessive need to keep using.

"Crystal meth use creates a sense of euphoria and of omnipotence, loss of self-control and marked loss of inhibitions. These effects lead to increased risk-taking, especially sexually, which leads in turn to barebacking, a very high-risk activity when it comes to blood-borne STIs and HIV transmission."
Dr Côté, Quartier Latin Clinic

"Complications related to crystal meth use are: increased blood pressure which can lead to a heart attack or a stroke; increased body temperature which can lead to kidney trouble and muscle breakdown. The drug can create anxiety, panic attacks, paranoia and a psychotic state. It’s a huge price to pay for an evening of fun."
Dr Tellier, McGill University
